Blue Horse Design Solutions Presents
Secrets To A No-Stress Holiday Gathering!
The art to making an impressive, mouthwatering platter, is varying the colors and textures, a variety of meats and cheeses, and lots of fresh items.
Step 1: Find the right boards to build your platters. Blue Horse Design Studios creates large live edge boards (pictured) perfect for all occasions. Large cutting boards, marble slabs, or ceramic platters are also great options.
Step 2: Choose a variety of cured meats and salumi such as, sopressata, salami, prosciutto, pepperoni, smoked sausages, smoked salmon and smoked trout are also great holiday options.
Step 3: A variety of soft and hard cheeses varying in milk types and color such as Brie, Havarti Gouda, Hot Pepper, Mozzarella, Provolone, Pecorino, Blue Cheese etc.
Step 4: Select the bread. I prefer to use sliced baguettes and keep it simple. If you want something crisp, try water crackers, they are plain enough to pair with flavorful cheeses.
Step 5: Pick the extras. The sweetness of fruit complements the saltiness of cheese. Good options to try are grapes, berries, apples, pears, also dried fruit such as apricots, figs, and prunes. Add nuts to the plate for a crunchy texture that offsets the creamy cheeses and pate’s. Olives, pickles, roasted red peppers and artichokes add additional savory elements.
Step 6: The finishing touches! Add some fresh herb sprigs such as rosemary, thyme, or mint. Most importantly have fun artfully arranging your board.
